Robbers of Swat tourists arrested, link to terrorist activities confirmed

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government Tuesday confirmed that it had arrested the robbers involved in looting the foreign and local tourists in Swat valley, 24News HD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
KP government spokesman Kamran Bangash and IG Police Moazzam Jah Ansari held a joint press conference and said they had recovered the looted items from the robbers.
Both the authorities said the robbers belonged to the areas of Bajaur, Mardan and other areas of the province and were changing the IEMI numbers of the stolen mobiles for use in terror activities.
The KP spokesman ensured the international community that robbery incidents with the tourists would not happen in future so they could come to the tourist spots freely and fearlessly.
The police chief said the incidents of the robbery with the tourists occurred in Swat and nearby areas.
He said tourists were robbed near Lower Dir and Chakdara bypass on August 5 and later two more incidents took place on August 9 in the same areas.
He said the police had traced a big gang involved in the crime and arrested four of the members of it.
On this occasion, the KP spokesman said his provincial government had earned Rs40 billion from the tourism sector and approximately 2.7 million tourists visited KP on around O.7 million vehicles this summer.
