Italy defends media 'independence' after Moscow envoy summoned

Italy's ambassador to Moscow defended the "independence" of the media on Friday after being summoned by Russian authorities over an Italian TV report in the embattled Kursk region, the foreign ministry said.
Cecilia Piccioni explained that public broadcaster RAI, "and in particular the editorial teams, plan their activities in a totally free and independent way," a ministry spokesman told AFP.
