JUI-Punjab directs district bodies to prepare for local govt elections
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Punjab Executive Council has directed its district organizations to start preparations for the upcoming local government elections, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Acting Ameer Maulana Safiullah chaired the meeting with Provincial Secretary General Hafiz Naseer Ahrar at Jamia Padania Jadid, Raiwind Road Lahore. The council urged the provincial government to take immediate steps to conduct local body elections. Maulana Safiullah stressed that the federal government should immediately restore the Madani Mosque in Islamabad, adding that the JUI would continue its struggle with scholars over its non-reconstruction. “Local body elections are the nursery of democracy, and the government must not delay them,” he said.
The council also expressed deep sorrow over the devastation caused by severe floods in Buner, Swat, Malakand, and Battagram, and appealed to party workers to actively take part in relief activities. A decision was also made to organize a seminar in honor of the late Maulana Mahmood Mian’s services. The meeting offered prayers for the late Maulana Mahmood Mian and for the recovery of the sick. Leaders, including Syed Zakaria Shah, Maulana Yahya Abbasi, Maulana Jamal Abdul Nasir, Hafiz Ghazanfar Aziz, and several others, attended the session.
