PAC takes notice of embezzlement in Excise Department

Public Accounts Committee-II (PAC-II) Chairman Ali Haider Gilani took notice of reports about financial embezzlement in the excise and taxation department due to the absence of an e-payment facility worth billions of rupees, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
Director-General Umar Sher Cheema said that the implementation of the e-payment system and cashless facility will end corruption.
He said that it's the right time to implement e-payment and a cashless system, which will end the corruption.
According to a recently released audit report, millions of rupees in losses were caused to the national exchequer by issuing manual receipts.
Huge financial embezzlement surfaced under the head of property tax and vehicle token tax. During the PTI tenure, massive embezzlement was found in the recovery of property taxes.
After the implementation of the e-payment system in 2021-22, huge irregularities were found in the property tax and the token tax on vehicles.
