LHC ex-chief justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan passes away in Lahore
Former chief justice (CJ) of Lahore High Court (LHC) and Supreme Court judge Justice Khalil-ur Rehman Khan breathed his last in Lahore on Tuesday morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to a statement of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the sudden death of Justice Khail-ur-Rehman Khan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the passing of former Chief Justice of Lahore High Court and former Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Khalil ur Rehman Khan.
Justice Khalil-Ur-Rehman Khan was regarded as one of the senior and highly experienced judges, the prime minister said in a press statement issued here.
He said Justice Khalil was considered among the conscientious judges who devoted their entire lives to upholding justice and fairness.
The prime minister offered heartfelt condolences to the family of Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan. "May Almighty Allah grant Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan the highest place in Jannah."
Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan served as Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court in 1996.
Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan was born on 26th April, 1936; did his B.A. (Punjab), 1954; LL.B. (Punjab), 1956, and joined the legal profession in 1956.
Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan had 24 years of legal practice at the Bar on Constitutional, Civil, and Commercial Laws.
Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan was elevated to the Bench (Lahore High Court, Lahore) in May 1981. He submitted a Scheme for the training of judicial officers in 1985; the Scheme was approved by the Punjab Government in 1987.
He was also appointed as Chairman of the Religious Board (constituted under section 9 of the Modaraba Companies and Modaraba (Floatation and Control) Ordinance (XXXI of 1980) on 24.02.1987.
This Board, keeping in view principles of Islamic Economics and Shariah, certified that the object of the proposed Modaraba and the business to be conducted is not opposed to the Injunctions of Islam. His tenure expired in October 1994.
He was a Member, Board of Governors, Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad; Member, Syndicate, Punjab University; Member, Selection Board, Punjab University, and Member Senate, Punjab University. He was Member Election Commission of Pakistan from August 1990 to July 1993.
His funeral prayers will be offered in Garden Town area of Lahore, after Maghrib prayers, in which a large number of people will take part.
People from all walks of life expressed their heartfelt grief and sorrow over the demise of Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan.
They prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with courage.
