There seems to be no end in sight, particularly in the near future, for the dense fog that continues to engulf the country’s plains, thus leading to the closure of the motorway due to poor visibility, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
On the other hand, different sections of the motorway that were closed for traffic late Sunday night were at last opened after the break of several hours once the visibility improved.
The fog also affected the flight operation at the Lahore airport as three flights were cancelled and several others were rescheduled.
With the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 202, Lahore was ranked as the fifth most polluted city in the world on Monday. Karachi stood at the 14th position.
The Met Office, on the other hand, has predicted dry and extremely cold weather for most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.
However, it has predicted either drizzle or light rain for the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Murree, Jhelum and Attock.
Similarly, it has been forecast that there will be light rain with snow over the hills in a few districts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
According to the weather department, thick fog will continue to blanket the plains of Punjab.
Likewise, the fog has been predicted for Mohenjo Daro, Larkana, Sukkur and Jacobabad.
