DPM Dar calls on Afghan PM Mullah Akhund and Interior Minister Haqqani to discuss security issues

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony for the Framework Agreement on Joint Feasibility Study of the UAP Railway Corridor, DPM/FM, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar called on the Afghan Prime Minister, Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund. 

According to Foreign Office spokesperson, the two leaders exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including peace and security, trade and transit cooperation and regional connectivity. Recalling their earlier meeting on 19 April 2025, they reaffirmed the commitment to continued engagement and agreed to maintain high-level contacts to promote bilateral relations. 

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar called on Interim Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul on Thursday. Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said that during the meeting, two sides agreed to maintain the current positive momentum in bilateral relations. The two leaders stressed on joint efforts to expand cooperation in the areas of trade, transit and security so that both nations can reap mutual benefits, Foreign Office Spokesperson said. 

The two sides agreed to remain in touch to realize the potential for regional economic development through the completion of inter-regional connectivity projects, the Foreign Office spokesperson said. 

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar called on Interim Afghan Interior Minister Sirajudddin Haqqani on the sideline of trilateral meeting. Both sides discussed security affairs and regional challenges and stressed the need to move together to counter regional security challenges. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated that security and border management issued should be resolved on priority basis so that regional cooperation should be enhanced further.
