Sabahat Ali discusses acting etiquette, online abuse and challenges in showbiz industry

Veteran and evergreen Pakistani actress Sabahat Ali Bukhari has opened up about the bitter realities of the entertainment industry.

The former newscaster discussed acting etiquette, online abuse and the challenges of forming genuine friendships in showbiz. Speaking about onset behaviour, Sabahat revealed that some actors prefer shooting their scenes alone and even ask other performers to leave the room before delivering their lines.

Questioning the practice, she wondered why such actors choose television if they are uncomfortable performing in front of their fellow artists.

Sabahat also spoke about the criticism she faces online and quoted that she is often targeted over her background and being a Syed.

She mentioned that some people even question her clothing choices and demand that she wear a dupatta (scarf).

The veteran also said online abuse can become extremely harsh with people using severe insults and curse words against her.

Discussing friendships in the industry, Sabahat said it is difficult for women to form genuine bonds in showbiz.

However, she named Mizna Waqas and Rabya Rizwan as some of the few exceptions.

Sabahat further said the new generation of actors is lucky as many of them gain fame before audiences truly see the extent of their acting abilities.

She explained that veteran actresses need immense tolerance as even a small display of impatience can lead to further criticism.

A seasoned actress and former PTV news presenter, Sabahat Ali Bukhari began her media career in 1989 and later transitioned to acting in 1995.

She has appeared in several popular dramas, including Qismat Ka Likha and Aakhir Kab Tak.
