Zoha Waseem shares ‘Single-Parent Childhood’ story

Pakistani singer Zoha Waseem, widely known as the ‘Majboori Girl’, has opened up about her childhood, revealing how being raised by a single father shaped her into an independent and responsible individual from an early age.

During her latest appearance on Fuchsia Magazine, hosted by Rabia Mughni, Zoha was asked about her experience of growing up under the care of her father after her parents separated.

Reflecting on her upbringing, the singer shared that her father's work commitments meant he spent most of his time in Karachi while she, her siblings, and their grandmother lived in Lahore. As a result, she learned to shoulder responsibilities at a young age.

"I think it put a lot of responsibility on me because my father was away most of the time. He had a business in Karachi, while we lived in Lahore with our grandmother. From the smallest household task to bigger responsibilities, I had to know everything."

Zoha explained that handling everyday chores helped her become far more self-reliant than many of her peers.

"Girls my age often don't know much about grocery shopping or household management, but I knew where to buy everything and how to manage things. It made me much more independent."

The singer also expressed heartfelt appreciation for her father, acknowledging the challenges he faced while raising three children on his own.

"I truly appreciate my father. Looking back now, we're mature enough to understand how difficult it must have been for him to raise three children without a wife. Naturally, we all stepped in to help him by dividing responsibilities among ourselves."

She added that because of those responsibilities, she never experienced the rebellious phase that many teenagers go through.

"That typical rebellious age never really came for me."

It is worthy to mention that Zoha Waseem rose to nationwide fame with her viral Punjabi-pop ballad Majboor, featuring Sheheryar Rehan, which garnered millions of streams across digital platforms. Initially recognized through her Covers by Zoha project, she has since released popular tracks including Ki Karaan and Duur Ve, while also earning recognition on Spotify Pakistan's Fresh Finds playlist. Today, she continues to engage a growing fan base through her music and social media presence.
