Juvenile driving permits introduced for teen motorcyclists in Punjab

Punjab government has announced a new initiative allowing teenagers aged between 16 and 18 to obtain juvenile driving permits for motorcycles, marking a significant change in youth driving regulations across the province.

Under the new policy, the Traffic Police will begin issuing juvenile driving permits for motorcycles from this week, enabling eligible young individuals to legally ride two-wheelers under specific conditions.

According to officials, including Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Waqas Nazir, the permits will allow teenagers to ride motorcycles and scooters up to 125cc only.

The annual fee for the juvenile driving permit has been set at Rs500. Applicants will be required to present a smart card or B-Form, while parental consent will be mandatory for issuance of the permit.

Authorities stated that applicants will first have to pass a written sign test, followed by a practical road test. Successful candidates will be issued permits on the spot after meeting all requirements.

Young applicants have been advised to visit their nearest licensing centres to apply for the permit. Officials also emphasised that safety regulations must be strictly followed, including the compulsory use of helmets, indicators, and side-view mirrors.

Traffic authorities warned that strict action will be taken against one-way violations, dangerous driving, and wheelies. They added that repeated or serious violations may result in cancellation of the juvenile driving permit.

The initiative is aimed at regulating young riders while ensuring road safety and reducing traffic-related accidents involving underage motorcyclists.
