PPP cancels central rally on Bhutto's anniversary

The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Tuesday decided not to hold its traditional central rally on April 4 to mark the martyrdom anniversary of the late prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, citing the prevailing regional situation. 

The decision was taken on the instructions of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and announced by the party’s Secretary General Humayun Khan. 

According to the announcement, the party will instead organise Quran recitation ceremonies at the district level across the country. All district organisations, including public representatives and ticket holders, have been directed to make arrangements for the observances and pay tribute to the late leader. 

Humayun Khan stated that the martyrdom anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto will be commemorated in a decentralised manner this year, with events being held in all districts on April 4. He emphasised that the decision to forgo a central gathering was made in light of the ongoing situation in the country and the broader regional context. 

Traditionally, the PPP holds a large gathering in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh to mark the anniversary of its founder. However, this year, party leadership has opted for smaller, localised events focused on Quran recitation and remembrance. 

Participants at these ceremonies will pay homage to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, recognising his sacrifices for the country and his contribution to the people of Pakistan. 

The party leadership reiterated its commitment to honouring Bhutto’s legacy while prioritising safety and responsibility amid current circumstances.
