UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a swift end to violence in Palestine by Israel, warning that the ongoing hostile situation could plunge the whole region into an uncontrollable crisis, reported 24NewsHD.
During a UN Security Council session on the escalation in Israel and Palestine on Sunday, Guterres said that the fighting must stop immediately.
He said the ongoing situation “has the potential to unleash an uncontainable security and humanitarian crisis and to further foster extremism, not only in Palestinian territory and Israel but in the region as a whole. The United Nations is actively engaging all sides toward an immediate ceasefire, he said, urging both sides “to allow mediation efforts to intensify and succeed.
Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Muneer Akram said that Pakistan strongly condemned the atrocities of Palestinians. He said dozens of children and civilians had lost their lives in Israeli attacks on Gaza. He further said attacking the building housing foreign media was a condemnable act. He said the Israeli acts were an open violation of international law.
He said Israel had violated the resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly. He called the UN should play its due role to stop the attacks of Israel on the innocent and unarmed Palestinians.
