ATC Rawalpindi hands down 11.5-year jail terms in checkpoint firing case

An Anti-Terrorism Special Court in Rawalpindi has sentenced two men to a combined 11.5 years in prison for shooting and injuring a police constable at a checkpoint last year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Monday.

The court announced the verdict in the case involving Salim Khan and Murad Khan, both of whom were accused of opening fire on police officials and seriously injuring Inspector Aamir during a checkpoint encounter.

According to case records, Saddar Wah Police Station had registered the FIR on January 30, 2023, on the complaint of the police. The charges included sections 324, 353, 186 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with Section 13-2A of the Punjab Arms Amendment Ordinance 2015 and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The court sentenced Salim Khan to a total of 11.5 years in prison on multiple charges. Murad Khan was handed a total of 5.5 years in jail along with a fine of Rs 10,000.

Both convicts were also ordered to pay Rs 50,000 each to the injured inspector as compensation.
