Pakistan Democratic Movement Sunday decided to launch a countrywide mass movement against the government over the ballooning inflation, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman made the announcement after taking consent from all allied parties over the phone.

Fazl said the government has proved a total failure and had mortgaged the country to the International Monetary Fund.

He said the Opposition will hold countrywide protests against the growing inflation within the next two weeks.

"As soon as we are done with the celebrations of the Eid Milad un Nabi (SAW), we will start a full-fledged campaign against inflation," he said while speaking to the media after holding an informal meeting with party members in Islamabad.

"We appeal to the entire nation to fully participate in the protests and rallies," he said while giving details of how the government incurred debts and increased inflation in the country.

He said the selected government has proved a total failure and to save the country it is indispensable to send the rulers packing.

He said the government has increased petroleum prices eight times in four months and people have to come out of their homes with confidence to oust this government.

Terming the government as the most corrupt ever, Fazl questioned that how the future generations would pay back the huge amount of debt the present rulers have taken.

He said the rulers who become a liability could not be let stay in the power.

Earlier, Fazl contacted Shehbaz Sharif on phone and took the consent to launch the mass movement over the inflations issue. PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif also was also taken into confidence who also gave a go-ahead to the proposed protests.

During the phone call, Shahbaz told Fazl that leaders need to get out of their homes to "save the nation from inflation, unemployment, and the ongoing economic catastrophe across the country".

The two leaders confirmed that to protest against the "historic" inflation, there will be demonstrations, rallies, and marches across the country.

Fazl also held an informal meeting of PDM leaders Shahid Kahqan Abbassi and Mahmood Achakzai at his residence in Islamabad where the plan was finalized.

He also contacted other opposition party leaders over the phone including Akhtar Mengal, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Aftab Sherpao and Professor Sajid Mir before announcing the mass movement against the government.
