GB police to send references related to serious crimes to FIA, MoU signed
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) police have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which GB Police will send all references related to serious crimes directly to FIA, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Under MoU, GB Police will send references for investigation of money laundering, element in car lifting, kidnapping, financial fraud and other serious crimes to FIA.
Moreover, FIA Anti-Money Laundering Wing will also provide special training to GB police officers on money laundering investigations and modern investigative procedures.
The training will pay special attention to the modern requirements of referral system, case management, and financial analysis.
The agreement between FIA and GB police will strengthen the investigation process.
Joint training will strengthen information exchange and cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
The MoU was signed by FIA Additional DG Anti-Money Laundering Akbar Nasir Khan and IG Gilgit-Baltistan Afzal Mehmood Butt.
In this regard FIA officials said this initiative will enable significant progress in examining the financial trail of crimes and preventing illicit financial flows.
These efforts of the FIA are in line with the guidelines of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and international standards.
The FIA considers prevention of money laundering, financial transparency, and protection of national security as its top priority.
