Pakistan, Poland to cooperate on flood management and recovery

Federal Minister for Water Resources, Moin Wattoo, held an important meeting with the Ambassador of Poland, Michiel Piszarski, Wednesday to discuss the recent flood situation, its damages, and recovery measures.

The minister said Pakistan faced severe floods this year due to 15 percent excess rainfall, which he attributed to climate change. “This flood is a result of climate change, and collective measures are needed to deal with such challenges,” he said.

Expressing sympathy with the victims, Poland assured cooperation and support for the people of the flood-affected areas. The Polish side also showed determination to assist in the restoration of flood-hit infrastructure and improvement of management systems.

Ambassador Piszarski noted that Poland had successfully overcome recurring floods through careful planning and effective strategies, offering to share relevant expertise with Pakistan.

Both sides agreed to cooperate in strengthening flood early warning systems, addressing urban flood challenges, and enhancing the capacity of disaster management institutions. Wattoo said practical steps in this regard would be initiated soon.
