Maulana Fazl demands immediate elections in country

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has demanded that general elections be held in the country immediately, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

He has said that its time for the political parties to seek a fresh mandate. “If the parties, part of the newly formed coalition government, think that there are flaws in the country’s electoral system, then they should go ahead with the introduction of reforms. We will support the initiative,” he has said, and has added, “There is a limit to political expediency. We don’t think there is any need to unnecessarily prolong stay at the office.”

The JUI-F chief’s statement comes at a time when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is also Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President, is still grappling with the formation of the federal cabinet as he is busy negotiating with the coalition partners to give them proper representation in the new setup formed after the ouster of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government after voting on the no-trust motion.
