Wohaib Club emerges champions in Lahore District Weightlifting Ch'ship

Wohaib Weightlifting Club secured the overall title at the Lahore District Men’s and Women’s Weightlifting Championship, finishing on top with 85 points after a two-day competition in Lahore, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

The event, hosted at  Ali Park and organised by retired Prof  Azhar of the Government Islamia College University, saw A.R.T Club take second place with 70 points, while Hajvery Club finished third with 46 points.

According to PRO Sohail Javed Butt, a total of 75 athletes, including 57 men and 18 women, competed across multiple weight categories.

The championship also paid tribute to the late Muhammad Shafiq, a South Asian Games gold medallist and 11-time national champion, in recognition of his contributions to the sport.

Among standout performances, Mujahid of Wohaib Club claimed gold in the 71kg category with a total lift of 237kg, while Essa Adam topped the 88kg division with 260kg.

In the 110+kg category, Muhammad Ahmed Butt of Wohaib Club secured gold with a 261kg lift.

Other notable gold medallists included Hub-e- Ali (79kg) of A.R.T Club and Qasim (94kg).

The closing ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Munazza, Asher Murtaza and Nuzhat Jabeen, who distributed cash prizes, medals and certificates among the top performers.

Jibran Bin Salman, President of the Punjab Weightlifting Association, praised the organisers for successfully hosting the event, noting that such competitions play a key role in nurturing emerging talent.

The Wohaib Weightlifting Club, Chauburji, clinched the overall title at the two-day Lahore District Mens & Women's Weightlifting Championship, hosted at A.R.T Club, Ali Park by organising Secretary Retired Professor Azhar of  (English Department) Government Islamia College University Railway Road Lahore According to volunteer PRO Sohail Javed Butt, Wohaib Club secured the top position with 85 points, while A.R.T Club finished second with 70 points, and Hajvery Club claimed third place with 46 points.
The championship featured strong participation, with 57 men and 18 women athletes competing across multiple weight categories. A special tribute was paid to the student to professor Azhar late Muhammad Shafiq, South Asian Games champion and 11-time national Champion, record holder in recognition of his immense contributions to the sport.

•    110+kg: Muhammad Ahmed Butt (Wohaib Club) – Gold, 261kg total lift with Silver Medalist Hussnain Ali of Muslim Health Club,
•    Other Gold Medalists: Hub Ali 79kg  (ART Club) 150 kgs Total lift, Usman Aqeel Butt (National Weight lifting Club Punjab Stadium) Silver medal ;Qasim (94kg) Gold with total 251 kgs , Shaheer (Wohaib Club) silver Muhammad Ali (110kg) with Fardeen silver medalist of ART club.

The closing ceremony was graced by chief guests Madam Munazza, Asher Murtaza, and Madam Nuzhat Jabeen (Chairperson, PWLF),and attended by  Sports Persons Aqeel Javed Butt  Former International Weight Lifter Secretery Punjab Weight lifting Association, International Qaiser Iftekhar, Amir Ali ,Adeeb Akram, Zahoor Ahmed,Wasiq Azhar, Asim Akbar, Abdullah Idrees Butt,Javed Asghar,Awais Akbar, Shakeel Mir, Kashif Hanif Butt,  who distributed cash prizes of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,000, and Rs. 5,000 among the top three teams, along with medals and certificates.

This victory cements Wohaib Club’s dominance in Lahore’s weightlifting circuit, while the championship itself showcased the depth of emerging talent across the district.
