LHC admits plea filed against extension in summer vacations at Punjab schools 

Expressing indignation over the Punjab government’s decision to extend summer vacations at schools, the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday admitted the petition filed against the provincial government’s decision for the hearing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The court issued notices to the secretary education Punjab and other respondents, and sought their replies. 

Justice Jawadul Hassan heard the petition filed by Danial, a student.  

Hafiz Waqar Ahmad Awan, counsel for Danial, who appeared in the court, said that the Punjab Education Department extended the vacations without any reason. “Keeping schools shut for three months amounts to playing with the future of children.”

Justice Jawad, on the occasion, asked under what policy the vacations were extended. “Courts have remained open even during wars. What is this that sometimes schools are closed on the pretext of the summer season and then fog?” 

Receiving education, the judge added, was every child’s fundamental right, and children could not be deprived of that right.

He went on to say that parents paid hefty fees so that their kids could get educated.
