Case registered after video shows brutal torture of domestic worker in Karachi

Police have registered a case after a video showing the brutal torture of a domestic worker on the stairs of a house in Karachi’s Buffer Zone area went viral on social media, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The incident took place in Sector 15-B of the Buffer Zone, where a man identified as Noman was seen assaulting a woman, later identified as domestic worker Yasmin, while another woman attempted to intervene. The video shows the victim being beaten on the staircase of a residential building.

According to Gabol Town SHO Rao Khalid, the case was registered on the complaint of the victim under FIR No. 217 of 2025 at Gabol Town Police Station under sections 504, 354 and 337-AI of the Pakistan Penal Code. The incident occurred on December 11.

In her statement, the complainant said she works as a cleaner in houses and was employed at the residence of Iftikhar on the first floor of House No. R-530. She stated that on December 10, she had a heated argument over a trivial matter with Shamsa, the wife of Noman, who lives on the second floor of the same building.

The following day, after completing her work and while leaving the house around 4:30 pm, Noman allegedly intercepted her on the stairs and subjected her to severe physical assault and verbal abuse.

The victim said that neighbors intervened and rescued her, but she sustained internal injuries to her face and body. After receiving medical treatment, she approached the police to lodge a complaint.

SHO Rao Khalid said police have conducted multiple raids at the accused’s residence, but Noman has fled after locking the house. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.

Meanwhile, Sindh Provincial Minister for Women Development Shahina Sher Ali took notice of the viral video and contacted the police to seek details of the incident. She directed authorities to conduct an immediate and transparent investigation and ordered the arrest of the accused.

“In the video, the accused is clearly subjecting the woman to extreme torture. Physical violence against women will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” the minister said, adding that the accused must be arrested immediately and punished according to law.

Police said the victim’s medical report is expected to be received on Monday and will be included in the investigation.
