Rob Reiner's children break silence on parents’ killing as brother faces murder charges

Jake and Romy Reiner, the children of American filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, have issued their first public statement following the deaths of their parents and the arrest of their brother, Nick Reiner, in connection with the case.

The siblings said they are grappling with overwhelming grief in the aftermath of what they described as a devastating tragedy.

In a statement released on Wednesday and reported by People, Jake and Romy addressed the emotional toll of losing both parents under such violent circumstances.

"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends,” the statement read.

They also acknowledged the support they have received since the news broke, expressing appreciation for the compassion shown by those around them.

"We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave."

The statement was made public on the same day their brother, Nick Reiner, appeared in court for the first time.

During the Wednesday hearing, the 32-year-old waived his right to enter a plea on two counts of first-degree murder.

Authorities allege that Nick Reiner fatally stabbed both of his parents. He was taken into custody on Sunday and is currently being held without bail.

On Monday, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that Nick Reiner was responsible for the homicide deaths.

Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner were discovered deceased in their Los Angeles home on Sunday.

On Wednesday, the county medical examiner confirmed that both deaths were homicides caused by multiple sharp force injuries. Law enforcement officials have not disclosed further details regarding the evidence, the circumstances surrounding the alleged killings, or a possible motive leading to Nick Reiner’s arrest.

Nick Reiner is scheduled to remain in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles until his next court hearing on January 7.
