In a written command on the petition filed by wife of Mohsin Baig, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday ordered a free and fair inquiry into alleged torture of the senior journalist, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Justice Athar Minallah ordered the district magistrate to carry out inspection of Margalla police station, asking him to submit a report after completing investigation into alleged torture of the journalist.
The court also asked the Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) to order a free and fair inquiry into the police’s behaviour with the journalist.
“The accused cannot be treated against the law. His basic rights cannot be denied,” the court said. “Those involved in torture of the journalist in custody will have to face the music,” it added.
Both—district magistrate and IGP—were asked to report to the IHC through their representatives on next hearing.
