Suspect with bag detained from CM Maryam's meeting room in Murree

A serious security lapse was reported in Murree ahead of a scheduled meeting of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after a suspicious man carrying a bag was found inside the meeting room before the session and subsequently taken into custody, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to sources, the suspicious man was present at the venue before the chief minister’s arrival, raising immediate concerns among security officials. The presence of the suspect triggered swift action, and Special Branch personnel detained the individual and escorted him away for questioning.

The incident prompted authorities to initiate a comprehensive review of the chief minister’s security arrangements. Officials confirmed that instructions have been issued to tighten security protocols further to prevent any recurrence of such lapses.

A high-level inquiry has also been ordered to investigate the circumstances surrounding the breach. The process of identifying officials responsible for any negligence has begun, and sources indicated that departmental action against members of the security staff assigned to the chief minister is under consideration.

Authorities are also reviewing security plans for sensitive locations, with changes expected to enhance surveillance and access control measures during high-profile visits.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived in Murree and briefly stopped her vehicle on Mall Road. She remained inside her car while holding discussions with the Deputy Commissioner of Murree and other senior officials.

Her presence on the popular tourist avenue drew the attention of visitors and local residents, who gathered around to catch a glimpse of the chief minister.
