The opposition has finalised the names of its members for the parliamentary committee on appointment of the caretaker Punjab CM, 24NewsHD TV channel report
The Punjab Assembly speaker has to form a six-member committee consisting of reps of the government and the opposition to appoint the caretaker CM with consensus.
Earlier, the governor referred the matter to the speaker as the government and the opposition failed to finalise the name of a caretaker CM with consensus. Malik Ahmed Khan, Hassan Murtaza and Nadeem Kamran will represent the opposition.
If the parliamentary committee fails to have a consensus, the matter will be taken up by the election commission.
Following the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly, the government and opposition expedited consultations for a caretaker setup.
The opposition nominated senior journalist Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and former bureaucrat Ahad Cheema as caretaker chief minister of Punjab. The nominees were finalised after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed the matter with his key coalition partners Asif Ali Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
If the parliamentary committee fails to reach a consensus, the matter will go to the Election Commission of Pakistan and the commission will select one of the names sent by the government and the opposition leader.
