European security concerns rise amid Afghan Taliban-era radicalisation

Afghan militants nurtured under the Taliban regime have increasingly become a serious security threat beyond Central Asia, raising fears across Europe as extremist ideology spills over borders and endangers innocent lives globally, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to reports by the BBC and Arab News, formal criminal proceedings have begun in Germany against an Afghan national accused of deliberately driving a vehicle into a crowd in the city of Munich. The attack resulted in the deaths of a mother and her daughter, while several others sustained severe injuries.

Prosecutors have stated that the Afghan suspect already faces allegations in two prior murder cases along with charges of attempting to murder forty-four more people.

Following the incident, the German chancellor announced strict and decisive measures against Afghan migrants involved in criminal activities, signalling a hardening stance toward offenders residing in the country.

The Munich attack came just a month after another Afghan citizen in Aschaffenburg fatally stabbed two individuals in a separate incident that intensified public concern.

Similarly, last year in Washington, an Afghan extremist opened fire, killing a male and a female member of the National Guard, highlighting the widening geographical reach of radicalised actors.

Across Pakistan, Iran, the United States, the United Kingdom and several European nations, mass arrests and deportations of illegal Afghan migrants continue at pace as governments tighten security measures.

Experts warn that Afghanistan has once again transformed into a breeding ground for terrorism, posing severe security risks to neighbouring states and countries far beyond the region.
