US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker shares diplomatic journey, encourages curiosity and service

The United States Embassy in Islamabad has released a short coffee-table interview with Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, in which she spoke about her passion for diplomacy, her experience representing the United States in Pakistan, and the values she believes are essential for future leaders.

Reflecting on her childhood aspirations, Baker said she had always dreamt of travelling the world, exploring different cultures and meeting people from diverse backgrounds. "When I was little, I wanted to travel the world. I wanted to visit interesting places and meet wonderful people from different cultures," she said.

Baker said her ambition eventually led her to diplomacy, where she could promote peace, build partnerships and represent the United States and its values abroad. "I wanted to become an ambassador for the idea of travelling the world, meeting wonderful people, partnering for peace, and representing the stability of my country and American values," she said.

Speaking about her current role in Pakistan, Baker described it as a privilege to represent US President Donald Trump and his administration's policies. "The best part of being the Chargé d’Affaires is having the honour of representing President Trump and his administration's policy in Pakistan," she said.

She added that the assignment had given her the opportunity to engage with visionary leaders and people from across Pakistan. "It has brought me into contact with amazingly strong, visionary leaders in Pakistan and Pakistani people from all over the country," she said.

Discussing the challenges of her position, Baker said the biggest difficulty was managing time amid a demanding schedule. "The most challenging thing for me is not having enough hours. I can't do everything," she remarked, adding that she has to meet many people, visit different places and manage numerous priorities at the US mission in Pakistan.

She acknowledged that balancing these responsibilities often requires careful planning and flexibility. Offering advice to aspiring diplomats and young people, Baker encouraged them to remain curious, humble and attentive to the needs of others. "Be curious and humble and be aware of those around you and their needs," she said.

She concluded by saying that everyone possesses unique abilities and talents that can be used to support others, strengthen communities and make the world a better place. "Knowing what we can do strengthens our communities and society and changes the world for the better," Baker said.
