Child killed, three injured as house roof collapses during renovation in Narowal
An eight-year-old boy was killed and three family members were injured when the roof of a room collapsed during renovation work at a house in Narowal, rescue officials said on Thursday.
According to Rescue 1122, the incident occurred while renovation work was underway at the residence. Several family members were inside the room when the roof suddenly gave way, trapping them under the rubble.
Rescue officials said a husband and wife, their daughter and grandson were buried beneath the debris after the collapse.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene and launched an operation to remove the rubble and rescue those trapped inside.
Officials said that by the time rescuers arrived, eight-year-old Ehtesham had already died from injuries sustained in the collapse.
Three other family members were pulled out alive but suffered injuries. The injured were identified as Shazia, 38, Asma, 16, and Qaiser, 50.
Rescue personnel provided initial medical assistance before shifting the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The tragic incident left family members and residents of the area in shock, while local people gathered at the scene as rescue operations continued.
Police also arrived at the site after the accident and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the roof collapse.
Authorities said efforts were underway to determine whether structural weaknesses or ongoing renovation work contributed to the incident.
The body of the deceased child was handed over to the family after necessary procedures, while the injured remained under medical care.
