A legal challenge has been mounted in the Lahore High Court against the decision to raise the fee for Light Transport Vehicle (LTV) driving licenses, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The court, presided over by Justice Shahid Karim, has issued notices to the Home Secretary, IG Punjab, and CTO, seeking their responses to the petition filed by Syed Muhammad Aftab Shah, represented by Advocate Mazhar Amin Chadhar.
The petition highlights that the fee for an LTV driver’s license has seen a substantial increase from Rs. 950 to Rs. 10,000. This hike is deemed unbearable for LTV car drivers, as stated in the petition.
Furthermore, the petition argues that the fee increase contradicts section 22 of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965.
In addition to the license fee, printing and miscellaneous charges amounting to Rs. 480 have also been imposed.
The petitioner has urged the court to declare the move to increase the fees for driving licenses of LTV vehicles as null and void. The case is currently under review by the Lahore High Court.
