Sharp rise in bus fares stuns travellers heading to native homes for Eid

As Eidul Fitr is just a few days away, people have flocked to bus stations in Lahore and other cities to celebrate the occasion with their loved ones; however, much to their dismay, fares have increased considerably due to hike in petroleum products prices, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

To some stations, fares as notified by the government, after 10 per cent increase, have risen to Rs1,100.

New fare for travelling from Lahore to Islamabad, after a jump by Rs290, has risen to Rs3040, while from Lahore to Khanewal, after an increase by Rs210, has reached Rs2420.

Similarly, passengers travelling from Lahore to Multan would earlier pay Rs2410.

Now, after an increase by Rs230, they will have to pay Rs2,640.

Previously, passengers travelling from Lahore to Rawalpindi were charged Rs2,980.

Now, after an increase by Rs280, they are charged Rs3260.

Fare for travelling to Bahawalpur was Rs1,750.

Now, it has gone up by Rs170 to reach Rs1920.

Earlier, commuters had to pay Rs2,340 for travelling from Lahore to Dera Ghazi Khan.

Now, after an increase by Rs220, commuters will have to pay Rs2560.

Previously, transporters would charge Rs1,280 from people travelling to Faisalabad from Lahore.

Now, after an increase by Rs130, the fare has jumped to Rs1,410.

Earlier, passengers would have to pay Rs7,990 for travelling from Lahore to Hyderabad.

Now when the fare has gone up by Rs760, they will have to pay Rs8750.

People, commuting from Lahore to Sargodha, would earlier pay Rs1,290.

Now they will have to pay Rs1410 because the fare has soared by Rs120.

Transporters would previously charge passengers Rs11,000 for travelling from Lahore to Karachi.

Now, after an increase by Rs1100, the new fare stands at Rs12,100.
