Federal govt cuts 80 percent budget of universities in Lahore

The federal government has made an 80percent cuts in the budget of government universities in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Now universities including Punjab University will get the only Rs2.30billion instead of Rs14billion in budget for various research and development projects.
The universities that faced cut include the University of Lahore, Tianjin University, University of Education, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and Punjab University.
In UET, the budget for Innovation Center and infrastructure improvement has been reduced while budget cuts were made on the expansion project of Tianjin University.
The government has decreased the budget for academic and research programs at Punjab University.
The expansion of the University of Education will get Rs370million instead of Rs970million in the new financial year.
Under the public sector program, the federation had to fund the Punjab government for public universities.
The TV channel reported that budget cuts will severely disturb the ongoing projects of government universities and it will also increase project cost estimates.
