Metro Bus employees stage protest against 200 terminations

Employees of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus staged a protest demonstration against the forced terminations of 150 to 200 employees, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

A large number of passengers faced hardships due to the protest of the employees. Women employees also participated in the agitation.

The protesting employees chanted slogans against the management. They said that 150 to 200 employees were dismissed from service without any prior notice.

They said that these employees were dismissed on May 1, 2026, and the protest was still under way. They said that two months' salary of the employees was still outstanding.

The employees had not been getting their salaries for the last two months. The protestors said that the contract of Metro Bus Service was awarded to a new company.

The protesting employees said that their contract is valid till 2027 but they are being terminated without any proper reason.

Later, the bus service was restored in the twin cities as the Metro Bust administration and a team from Islamabad’s I-9 Police Station held talks with the protesters.

The sacked employees demanded payment of salaries and reinstatement to their jobs. The administration and the police assured redressal of their problems.

However, the protesters demanded written assurance from the administration and refused to leave from the protest site.
