Indian film industry misrepresenting Muslims, says Mehwish Hayat
Mehwish Hayat has spoken out against the stereotypical and problematic portrayal of Muslims in cinema around the world.
She urged Indian filmmakers to “build bridges, not hatred” as she criticized Akshay Kumar starrer movie “Sooryavanshi”.
She said: “Sooryavanshi” is the latest film in Bollywood promoting islamophobia.”
Mehwish Hayat said the “tide is turning in Hollywood” and expressed the hope that “across the border, they will also follow suit”.
“As I’ve said, if not positive depictions,at least be fair in the way that you show Muslims,” she added.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, “Sooryavanshi” features Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
