Australia clinch victory over New Zealand in warm up match
Australia clinch victory over New Zealand while successfully chasing down 159 runs target in their warm-up match of T20 World Cup played in Tolerance Oval stadium of Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Batting first, the Blackcaps posted a total of 158/7. Skipper, Kane Williamson was the highest scorer for New Zealand scoring 37 runs off 30 balls (strike rate: 123.33) while Daryl Mitchel scored 33 runs off 22 balls. Martin Guptill and James Neesham also managed to score 30 and 31 runs respectively.
Kane Richardson stood out by taking the highest number of wickets for Australia. The right-arm fast-medium bowler dismissed four kiwi players. Adam Zampa, the leg-spinner bagged two wickets while Mitchell Starc and Ashton Agar took one wicket each.
In the chase, Australia lost their first wicket as early as 0.1 overs when Tim Southee dismissed David Warner for a duck.
Aaron Finch and Mitchell Marsh scored 24 runs each. While Marcus Stoinis scored 28 runs. Steve Smith scored 35 off 30 balls.
Mitchell Starc (13 runs) and Josh Inglis (8 runs) managed to take Australia to the victorious side.
Earlier the day, Australia won the toss and elected to field first against New Zealand.
