LHC imposes fine on PFA counsel over failure to appear in court

Lahore High Court has imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the Punjab Food Authority due to failure of their counsel to appear in the court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

The Director General (DG) of the Punjab Food Authority has been ordered to appear in person if the fine is not paid. Justice Khalid Ishaq heard the petitions filed by Hafiz Sohail Raza and Muhammad Shahbaz. "This is an old case; where is the Food Authority's senior counsel?" asked Justice Khalid Ishaq. "The senior counsel did not come today," replied the junior counsel. "This case has been pending since 2019, yet arguments are not being presented," remarked Justice Khalid Ishaq.

"I am imposing a fine of Rs100,000 due to the senior counsel's failure to appear," ordered Justice Khalid Ishaq. "Deposit the Rs100,000 fine at the dispensary," court ordered the Food Authority's counsel. The court adjourned the hearing on the petition filed regarding Assistant Director positions.

The petitioners had approached the High Court over the non-appointment to the post of Assistant Director at the Food Authority.
