PPP 'regrets' Bilawal's absence as Pakistan becomes focus of global attention

Some leaders of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) reportedly urged President Asif Ali Zardari in 2024 to appoint Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as foreign minister, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

However, party sources said Zardari responded that the PPP’s current focus was on preparing Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for a future role as prime minister, rather than assigning him a cabinet portfolio at this stage.

Sources within the party said that some PPP leaders have expressed regret over Bilawal not holding a key diplomatic position during a period of heightened Pakistani diplomatic activity on the present Gulf tensions.

They reportedly said that had Bilawal been serving as foreign minister of Pakistan during recent international developments, including diplomatic efforts for peace between the United States and Iran, the party would have gained greater political advantage in the next elections.
