Another 74 people breathed their last and 4,373 were infected by coronavirus throughout Pakistan during the last 24 hours (Wednesday), showed the figures released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Thursday morning.

As per the NCOC figures, after the addition of 74 new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 24,713 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,113,647 after adding the fresh 4,373 cases.

During the last 24 hours (Wednesday), a total of 55,634 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio stood at 7.86 percent.

During the last 24 hours (Wednesday), as many as 2,977 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 999,403. As of Wednesday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 89,531.

As many as 416,230 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 376,252 in Punjab, 154,606 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 95,196 in Islamabad, 31,726 in Balochistan, 30,111 in Azad Kashmir and 9,526 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 11,455 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 6,529 in Sindh, 4,714 in KP, 838 in Islamabad, 672 in Azad Kashmir, 335 in Balochistan and 169 in Gilgit Baltistan.

The race was due to take place at Suzuka on October 10, but the Japanese government pulled the plug because of the country's worsening virus outbreak.

- No vaccine, no fly -
Australian airline Qantas is making vaccines mandatory for staff as it struggles to get planes back in the skies.

The national carrier says pilots, cabin crew and airport staff must be fully vaccinated by November 15.

- 4.3 million dead -
The coronavirus has killed at least 4,381,911 people since the outbreak emerged in China in December 2019, according to an AFP compilation of official data. 

The US is the worst-affected country with 623,322 deaths, followed by Brazil with 570,598, India with 432,519, Mexico 249,529 and Peru 197,539.
