A man was killed reportedly in an ‘encounter’ with the police in Korangi area of Karachi on Saturday night, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to SSP Korangi Shah Jahan Khan, personnel of police’s Street Crime Squad were alerted about the presence of two ‘dacoits’ in the area. “And when they reached the area, an exchange of fire ensued between them and ‘dacoits’ as a result of which Wasif Riaz, a resident of Mehran Town, was killed,” he elaborated.
Later, two cops, out of total three nominated in the FIR, who had participated in the ‘encounter’ were taken into custody following protests by the family members of the deceased as well as ordinary citizens who disputed police’s claim of an encounter and claimed that their man was innocent.
Asif Riaz, brother of 28-year-old Wasif, told the media that a baby girl had born to his brother, a factory worker, three months ago. He said he was returning home from his workplace that he fell victim to police’s firing. “If only my brother was taken to a hospital instead of police station, his life could have been saved,” he said dolefully.
Asif called upon the authorities to conduct a transparent and an impartial inquiry so that truth could come out.
The funeral prayers of Wasif would be offered today after Asr prayers. Reporters: Junaid Feroze, Danyal Syed
