Govt to launch air ambulance service on national highways by 2026: Minister

The Ministry of Communications has decided to launch an air ambulance service on national highways by 2026, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday. 

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan informed the Standing Committee on Communications.

Briefing the committee, the minister said the air ambulance service would be operated through helicopters to ensure rapid emergency response on major highways across the country.

He clarified that the ministry would not seek funding from either the Ministry of Planning or the Ministry of Finance for the project.

Abdul Aleem Khan further announced that properly developed service areas would be established at intervals of 20 to 25 kilometres on all national highways to facilitate travellers and improve road safety.

The minister, highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects, said the Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway was under construction, adding that connecting the motorway network directly with Karachi Port was also part of the government’s future planning.

The federal minister also claimed that the travel distance between Lahore and Islamabad would be reduced by 100 kilometres under the upcoming road projects.

He said new motorways were being planned on the Sialkot–Kharian and Kharian–Rawalpindi routes.

According to him, these routes would be upgraded from four lanes to a six-lane motorway, significantly improving travel time, connectivity, and overall transport efficiency between major cities.
