NZ’s smart batting and Pak’s death bowling lapses cost us match: Rizwan

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan admitted that New Zealand set a bigger target than expected, shifting the momentum of the match in their favor. 

Speaking at a post-match press conference on Wednesday, Rizwan acknowledged that despite early breakthroughs, Will Young and Tom Latham’s partnership proved to be a game-changer.

 “We had expected to restrict them to around 260, especially after picking up early wickets, but Young and Latham turned the match with their composed batting,” Rizwan explained. 

He credited New Zealand for their smart approach, saying, “The pitch wasn’t easy for batting early on, yet they built a strong innings, which proved decisive.”

Pakistan’s skipper pointed out that the team struggled in the final overs of the bowling innings. “We tried our best, but our death bowling wasn’t effective, allowing them to post a big score,” he admitted.

Addressing Fakhar Zaman’s injury, Rizwan mentioned that the team was awaiting scan results. 

He also highlighted Pakistan’s loss of rhythm at crucial moments. “We lost momentum twice—first in the death overs while bowling and then in the powerplay during our chase. 

Rizwan said that the team is not burdening itself with the pressure of being defending champions. “This match is over. The next game is just another match for us, and we’ll move forward with that mindset,” he remarked.
