Zurich win Europe's ice hockey crown

ZSC Lions Zurich won Europe's Champions Hockey League (CHL) on Tuesday, beating Sweden's Farjestad Karlstad 2-1 in the final.

Sven Andrighetto scored in the first and second period. The visitors reduced the deficit in the third and final period but a strong defensive performance from the hosts secured the title before 12,000 fans at the Swiss Life Arena.

Swiss forward Andrighetto finished as the CHL's top scorer with 10 goals, and was named the tournament's most valuable player.

It was the second time that ZSC Lions have been crowned champions of Europe, having won a previous version of the tournament in its only edition in 2009.

ZSC Lions won the Swiss play-offs last season, while Farjestad were the Swedish regular season champions.

Twenty-four teams from 12 countries took part in the CHL.

ZSC Lions beat last season's CHL winners, domestic rivals Geneve-Servette, in the competition's semi-finals, while Farjestad downed Sparta Prague.

ZSC Lions' win in the 10th CHL final means the trophy stays in Swiss hands after Swedish and Finnish clubs won the first eight titles.
