Religious scholars call upon Balochistan youth to shun militancy

Religious scholars from across Pakistan on Thursday issued a joint statement expressing deep sorrow and grief over the ongoing violence and loss of innocent lives in Balochistan.

In their statement, the ulema emphasized that the sanctity of human life is indisputable in Islam, stating that the killing of civilians, workers, travellers or security personnel is strictly forbidden and falls under the category of spreading chaos on earth. They said terrorism, armed rebellion and damage to public facilities have no place in Islam, regardless of any political or ethnic justification behind such acts.

The scholars stated that Islam does not permit any individual or group to declare jihad or resort to violence in the name of religion, terming such actions a clear distortion of Islamic teachings.

They acknowledged that the people of Balochistan are facing genuine challenges related to justice, development and dignified living standards, but stressed that Islam teaches peaceful, legal and moral means to resolve these issues rather than violence that leads to further destruction and instability.

Appealing to the youth, the ulema urged them to reject militancy and instead adopt the path of education, patience and constructive struggle. They also called upon the state to ensure the resolution of public issues through justice, human dignity and dialogue.

The statement concluded by asserting that Islam rejects terrorism, oppression and injustice, and that the future of Balochistan lies in peace, reconciliation and justice—not violence. The scholars also prayed for the protection of the homeland from sedition and corruption.
