SC fines man for falsely claiming woman he raped was his wife

The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday slapped Rs1 million in fine on a man who had raped the niece of his wife and later claimed she was his wife, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan issued a seven-page verdict.

The apex court rejected the petition filed by a citizen named Muhammad Shahzad.

In the verdict, the judge wrote that the petitioner subjected his wife’s niece to rape, and later tried to project that the victim was his wife.

The court noted that the petitioner was married to the victim’s aunt. “And as per law, he cannot marry his wife’s niece.”

The judge further wrote that Shahzad later claimed that he had divorced his first wife. “In fact, that was a lie,” the judge said, adding that was done to hide the heinous crime he had committed and to evade legal obstacles.

The court also declared the petitioner biological father of the child the victim gave birth to.

It also made it binding on him to meet the expenses of the baby, saying that the child could not be deprived of his basic rights due to a dispute between his parents.
