The government has transferred Balochistan Inspector General of Police Mohsin Butt and has replaced him with Additional IG of CTD Rai Tahir, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel Tuesday.

Mohsin Butt was appointed as IGP Balochistan on June 13, 2018.

Rai Tahir has been serving as the head of Counter Terrorism Department for the last six years. Rai Tahir is a grade-21 officer and has impressed with his performance in controlling the terrorism activities in Punjab as the head of the CTD.

Due to his performance in the anti-terrorism department, Rai Tahir has been appointed as new IGP of Balochistan in the wake of the recent surge in the terrorist activities in Balochistan.

He has been tasked to restore the law-and-order in Balochistan by countering the terrorists.

Rai Tahir was removed once from his post as head of the CTD in 2019 in the wake of the Sahiwal incident in which four persons, including three members of a family, were allegedly shot dead while three minor children were injured. The family head Khalil of Lahore was going to attend a marriage ceremony of his relative when he was targeted by the CTD police.

The Punjab government had made Tahir Rai officer on special duty (OSD) after it transpired that head of the family, his wife and minor daughter were innocent and had nothing to do with any terrorist organization.

But later, he was reinstated to his post by the Punjab Government.
