A bank is bound to give compensation in case of any loss of locker stuff, the Lahore High Court ruled on Thursday.
The bank-customer relations are based on trust, the ruling read, adding that instead of redressing the grievance of the customer, the bank rejected the request.
“This behaviour of the bank is not commendable at all. If the banks do not ensure safety, there is no foundation of the banking system will disappear,” the verdict said.
The court of Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal gave the seven-page ruling on a bank plea against the president of Pakistan’s order to compensate the customer who lost 16-tola gold from her bank locker.
She filed an application with the bank but her request was turned down. She moved the ombudsperson but to no avail.
