Karachi mayor promises action against all those responsible for Gul Plaza tragedy

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced on Monday that action would be taken against all key players found responsible in the Gul Plaza tragedy, stressing that no aspect of the incident would be overlooked.

Speaking to the media, the mayor said that all facts and details related to the incident would be thoroughly examined and included in the report being prepared by the Karachi commissioner. He emphasized that the report would form the basis for any legal or administrative action.

Murtaza Wahab said the first approved map of Gul Plaza was passed in 1990, according to which the building was designed to have 1,021 shops. However, he said that at present, around 1,200 shops exist in the plaza, indicating clear violations of the approved plan.

“All details will be documented in the Karachi commissioner’s report,” the mayor said, adding that if action is required after reviewing the findings, it will be taken on all issues without discrimination.

He reiterated the city administration’s commitment to ensuring accountability and preventing such incidents in the future through strict enforcement of building regulations.
