Cold, dry weather persists across Pakistan; rain, snowfall expected in upper regions

Cold and dry weather prevailed across most parts of the country on Monday night, while severe cold conditions continued in mountainous areas, according to the Meteorological Department.

Light rain and light snowfall are likely at a few places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, while partly cloudy weather may persist in some regions.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy fog is expected in the plains of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours.

For Tuesday, cold and partly cloudy weather is forecast for Islamabad and its surrounding areas.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cold and dry weather is expected in most districts. However, partly cloudy conditions with chances of light rain and light snowfall are likely in Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Abbottabad and adjoining areas.

Punjab is likely to experience cold and dry weather in most districts, while severe cold and partly cloudy conditions are expected in Murree, Galyat and surrounding areas. Moderate to heavy fog is likely during night and morning hours in several cities, including Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Multan, Kot Addo, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur and Bahawalpur.

In Balochistan, cold and dry weather is expected across most districts, while extremely cold conditions are likely to persist in the northern parts of the province.

Sindh will also remain cold and dry in most areas. Fog is likely in Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Larkana, Tando Jam, Mohenjodaro and Jacobabad during night and early morning hours.

In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, light rain and light snowfall are expected at a few locations.

According to recorded data, the lowest temperatures today included Leh at minus 8 degrees Celsius, Gopis at minus 6, Skardu at minus 5, and Bagroot, Parachinar and Quetta at minus 4 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, in Swat, light rain was reported in the plains, while snowfall occurred in upper areas. The mountains of Kalam, Malam Jabba and Gabin Jabba were covered in a thick white blanket, intensifying the cold weather conditions.

The snowfall has attracted tourists from across the country to Swat Valley, with the highest number of visitors currently reported in Kalam. Authorities said the weather in the region has turned extremely cold due to ongoing rain and snowfall.
