Pakistan targets 800,000 jobs for citizens in Gulf countries by 2026

Pakistan aims to create employment opportunities for 800,000 citizens in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries by 2026 as part of broader efforts to promote skills development and strengthen the national economy.

According to a report by Khaleej Times, the Pakistani government is continuing comprehensive reforms to address issues faced by overseas workers, enhance skill development, and expand employment opportunities abroad.

The newspaper described these measures as significant for Pakistan’s economic improvement.

The report said Pakistan intends to secure 800,000 jobs in the UAE and other countries this year, an increase of 60,000 positions compared to last year.

Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain said Pakistan exported a workforce of 740,000 in 2025, with a target to raise the figure to 800,000 in 2026.

Khaleej Times reported that more than 9 million Pakistanis are currently living in GCC countries and play a crucial role in supporting Pakistan’s economy.

Overseas Pakistanis sent approximately $40 billion in remittances last year, the report added.

The newspaper also noted that in December last year, Italy offered 10,500 jobs to Pakistani workers, particularly in the health and agriculture sectors.

According to officials, expanding overseas employment opportunities remains a key strategy for skills promotion, workforce development, and sustained economic growth.
