DHA Karachi police arrest suspect in foreign woman's assault case
Case filed at police station on complaint of victim's father: Police say medical examination and forensic sampling have been completed
Karachi police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged attempted sexual assault of a foreign woman at an apartment in DHA Phase 6 after the victim's family approached the authorities, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the case was registered at Darakhshan Police Station on the complaint of the victim's father, identified as Robert.
In the first information report (FIR), he alleged that his daughter, Melinda, was targeted inside her apartment by a man identified as Adi Mahmood.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred after the suspect drove the woman home.
She allegedly allowed him into the apartment for a drink before later falling asleep.
In her statement to investigators, the woman said she awoke to find the suspect attempting to sexually assault her.
The complainant told police that she immediately resisted, shouted for help and attempted to stop the suspect.
Police investigators said the accused fled the apartment after she raised the alarm.
Investigators further stated that the suspect returned to the apartment later to retrieve his mobile phone.
The woman again resisted, prompting him to flee the scene before he could be apprehended.
Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested the suspect.
Police officials confirmed that the victim underwent a medical examination and that forensic samples were collected to assist with the investigation.
Police said the incident took place on the night of July 17.
