Holding APC on election reforms by sidestepping parliament ridiculous: Fawad Chaudhary
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary has said the move of Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif for holding an all-parties conference on election reforms is ridiculous, reported 24News HD TV channel on Saturday.
In his tweet, Fawad Chaudhary said that Shehbaz Sharif wanted to bypass parliament by holding APC on election reforms. He said such decisions were taken by the parliament, adding that the opposition leader was becoming a part of the agenda of weakening the institution of parliament. He said the move was very sad.
PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif had suggested calling an all-parties conference on the controversial election bill.
The date for the APC will be decided after the consultation with all united opposition parties. All the opposition parties will be invited to participate in the conference. Other than the opposition parties, all stakeholders including the Election Commission of Pakistan, civil society, and the media would also be invited to participate in the APC. They said that the election observation and monitoring organizations would also be invited in this regard.
Shehbaz Sharif held telephonic consultation talks with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in this regard. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman supported the move and termed it appropriate and timely.
