DPO Kasur fails to satisfy court on late arrest of accused

District Police Officer (DPO) Kasur Aftab Phularwan has failed to satisfy the Lahore High Court (LHC) in a case in which an accused, Tanveer Ahmad, was arrested after seven years and seven months, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Justice Mohammad Tariq Nadeeem heard the case on Friday. During the hearing, the court expressed anger over the performance of the Kasur police and asked whether “this is a big question mark on the performance of the police.”

The court further observed, “Why was the accused declared as a proclaimed offender?” On this occasion, the DPO Kasur failed to satisfy the court with his reply.

DPO Kasur appeared in the court along with the deputy-prosecutor general, after which the Court asked: “You are a brave man, did you see the achievements of your police?”

DPO Aftab Phularwan said, “I examined the case and issued show-cause notices after completing the inquiry.”

Justice Mohammad Tariq Nadeem said, “You first study the case, then you complained that the court’s behaviour is not appropriate.”

The DPO Kasur said that all the personnel including Moharrir were served with the show-cause notice. 

Justice Tariq Nadeem observed, “You first issued a show-cause notice, then you settled the case”.

The DPO Kasur agreed with the court and said that warrants were not obtained for the accused. Justice Tariq Nadeem said that such kind of acts are harming our reputation globally.

The DPO Kasur said “He summoned all the cases of such nature.” The court expressed anger and said, “why not you do this before?”

Later, after listening to the DPO's stance, the court approved bail for the accused.
